Ruby's Beauty Room

My new years resolution this year has been a rather selfish one, I have promised to look after myself and the people who are there for me. We often get very caught up in our responsibilities and in looking after other people that we forget we need to be in good health to do these things. So this year I promised myself I would look after me, stand up for myself and instead of treating people who hardly remember me, really appreciate the ones that are always truly there, no matter what.

Me and my Mum have always been close, but I think it's not until you have children of your own that you really start to understand your parents. You could never imagine how much you parents worry, You never understand how much they have to ignore their own feelings for their children and you never realise just how intensely and unconditionally they love you. Until you are introduced to your very own little one. You realise then how much happiness, love and pain one little person can create.

"Making the decision to have a child - it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." - Elizabeth Stone

So every month or so me and my Mum take a day out together, to look after ourself and to enjoy life. Most often we go to visit Ruby's Beauty Room. Two Mummies getting spoiled and spending some quality time together.
Ruby is a qualified beautician and beauty therapist based in Northampton. She has her own space in a salon in Duston or can come to you mobile. She offers a range of treatments from manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, eye treatments, make- up, message, electrolysis, tanning and more.

I messaged Ruby one day and explained that I would like to plan a pamper day with her for my mum to be treated and for me to be looked after during my pregnancy. Ruby got back to me with a whole package of treats planned for us, a full Manicure with gel polish, a full Pedicure and a Head, face and neck massage.

Once we arrived we were surprised even further to see the care and attention Ruby had put into our arrival. She had her room set up beautifully and to our comfort, as well as having a lunch set out for us to enjoy. She had taken into consideration the fact me and my mum are both diabetic and I am pregnant, making sure the treatments and food were safe for us.

Ruby is friendly, helpful and comfortable to be around. She is very creative and caring with her work. As I have already said this one-off treatment has become a regular occurrence and we are never disappointed with our service.

We start our pamper day by arriving at Ruby's, and are warmly welcomes with a drink and our specially prepared snacks. She starts with a relaxing pedicure, making sure they are in good health as feet often get forgotten after all the work they do. We chose a beautiful colour to suit our moods and after some tender loving care our feet are left feeling smooth, rejuvenated and looking brilliant.
We take turns with our pedicures and then we move on to Manicures. Again Ruby take time to truly care for her clients, she takes time to talk and get to know them and she takes time to make sure they are feeling at their best.

Me and my mum are rather bold ladies. We don't often go for subtle colours. Though some beauticians may not be impressed with someone choosing more than two colours, Ruby will always go that extra mile to make sure her clients leave feeling fully looked after and fabulous. We talk over our colour choices and have fun coming up with brilliantly bright themes to bring a smile every time we look at our nails.

Ruby is a perfectionist, she goes over all her work, making sure it is as perfect as she can make it and to make sure it will last as long as possible.

I explained to her that nail varnish doesn't usually last long for me, she layered it up and I was very impressed when my gels lasted nearly a month.

Lastly we wind down (from all our laughing?) with a head, shoulder and face massage. Ruby talks over all our aches and pains and takes special care to try and ease these as she works her magic. She dims the lights, sets some ambient music and really creates a beautiful relaxing atmosphere to put us at ease.

I can not recommend Ruby enough, not only can we allow ourselves to relax and be taken care of, but we can also let all our worries and responsibilities go and just have a nice time. So remember Mothers day is just around the corner and maybe it is the perfect excuse to treat yourself or a loving Mumma in your life. You contact Ruby on her website or on Facebook at:

Wishing all you special Mummy's a very happy Mothers Day!
